FR

ENG

Since he began to produce other artists in 2015 with the Amadou & Mariam album La Confusion, Adrien Durand has gained a reputation for thoroughness, subtlety, enthusiasm and especially “a certain craft, the one of the great age of recording studios when microphones and reel-to-reel ruled.”

A musician himself, Adrien Durand writes, arranges and produces his own Bon Voyage Organization project. And he works with other artists in different roles: producer, mixer, arranger and even simply keyboards player. As a producer, he freely embraces methods that may seem unusual today, such as having all the musicians play in the same room and, as much as possible, avoiding any alteration of their performance between the recording and mixing stages. The raw performance of an artist with a group of musicians has a musical, emotional and, for me, often spiritual value that I’m very reluctant to change…”

Although he is much more at home with a team of musicians and acoustic or electric studio takes, Adrien also works on more electronic projects, such as his production of the group Bagarre’s last album, because “aside from the technical side, the producer’s role is mainly to act as a catalyst in the transformation process that turns a song into a recorded work.”

And he freely admits that, when he mixes, he has no predetermined choices. “All-analog or all-digital, I don’t mind. The main thing is for the feeling to be there.”

Set up around a Neve 8232 console, his Bureau 12 mixing studio reflects his opinion that “music doesn’t feed on music.” It is filled with a mishmash of items. His impressive collection of vinyl records from all over the world rubs shoulders with books on art and aviation, his other great loves.
