« Être à la fois le moteur et le carburant » voilà ce qui anime Nicolas Musset, aussi bien sur scène où il est un des batteurs les plus actifs de la scène française, qu’en studio. De fait son CV est impressionnant, puisque depuis dix ans il a enchaîné des concerts et des tournées avec Vianney, Gaëtan Roussel, Izïa, Louise Attaque, Thomas Azier, Yarol, Oxmo Puccino, Soko, Revolver, Jamaica... Tout en jouant sur les albums de Julien Doré, Hey Hey My My ou encore Louane et Raphaël. La liste est longue.
« La batterie c’est un instrument qui ne ment pas. Tu ne peux pas en jouer en faisant seulement semblant de t’investir, c’est physique. J’ai eu un coup de foudre pour cet instrument, étant enfant. Sa puissance et ses vibrations ont changé ma vie. Je me suis rêvé batteur durant cinq ans avant de pouvoir prendre mes premières leçons à l’adolescence » Depuis Nicolas Musset n’a jamais arrêté, poursuivant sa formation après le bac à l’école Atla à Paris puis à ICMP à Londres. « Ce que j’aime dans la batterie c’est son côté locomotive. Elle est le carburant de la musique. » Parmi tous ceux qui ont profité de son énergie, Nicolas Musset a développé une relation privilégiée avec Gaëtan Roussel, qu’il a rencontré en devenant le batteur de la reformation de Louise Attaque en 2016. Depuis il a été le directeur musical de sa tournée en 2019, puis ils ont collaboré sur la bande originale du film Les Parfums avant de co réaliser les pré-productions de son dernier album, Est ce que tu sais. « J’ai un côté bon soldat, fidèle et loyal. J’aime entrer dans le monde d’un artiste pour être sans faille à ses côtés. » Que cela soit sur scène, avec son jeu de batterie tendu, ou en studio où son dynamisme, son optimisme naturel et sa volonté « d’aller constamment au charbon » en font une véritable force motrice.

“Drums are an instrument that doesn’t lie. You can’t play and only pretend to be committed, it’s physical. I fell in love with the instrument when I was a child. Its power and vibrations changed my life. I dreamed of being a drummer for five years before I could start having lessons when I was a teenager.” Since then, Nicolas Musset has never stopped for a second. After graduating from high school, he continued his studies at the Atla school in Paris and then the ICMP in London. “What I love about the drums is their locomotive power. They’re the fuel of music.” Among all the partners to have benefited from his energy, Nicolas Musset has a special relationship with Gaëtan Roussel, having met him when he became drummer with the reformed Louise Attaque in 2016. Subsequently, he was the musical director of Gaëtan’s 2019 tour. After that, they worked together on the original soundtrack of the movie Perfumes before co-managing the preproduction of Gaëtan’s latest album, Est-ce que tu sais? “I have a good-comrade kind of personality, faithful and loyal.
